25th Anniversary Image Print for Informal Education Venues
To celebrate the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s 25 incredible years in orbit, ESA/Hubble sent over seventy high-quality large-format prints of Hubble’s anniversary image for display at informal education venues across Europe. This followed from an open call for proposals.
The content of the image was revealed to the public on the 23 April 2015 and the institutions selected held a huge range of celebratory events, recorded on social media using #Hubble25.
In order to submit the application, the applicant (on behalf of the associated institution) agreed to the following terms of the Hubble 25th anniversary image unveiling:
- Hold an image unveiling event in celebration of Hubble’s 25th anniversary in orbit on or after the date and time we provide (15:15:00 CEST on 23 April 2015).
- Ensure a strong media presence at the event and encourage press coverage.
- The event must be free and open to the public.
- Engage with social media by tweeting or uploading pictures of your event on facebook.
- Identify a long-term plan for displaying the Hubble anniversary image (e.g. a permanent exhibit gallery).
- Honour the ESA/NASA press embargo. Images may not be displayed prior to the ESA/NASA press release at 15:15:00 CEST on 23 April 2015.
- Ideally include other activities in the event such as a talk by scientists or a hands-on activity.
The selected venues received as part of this promotion:
- the image;
- press and VIP material for the unveiling event;
- promotion of the exhibition on the spacetelescope.org website and through our wide social media network.
The deadline for this promotion was 9 March 2015, proposals will no longer be accepted.
Image Details
The image prints are 3 metres wide and 2.25 metres in height.
There are holes reinfoced with metal along the edge of the image print (eight on the width, seven on the height). These can be threaded with rope (delivered with the print) for mounting purposes. Note that there is not a stiffener along the edges of the print so if not all holes are used the print may wrinkle when mounted.
The prints are made of Frontlite and so are fire resistant and weather proof and can be mounted outside.

Many of the events also include planetarium shows, photo exhibitions, guided tours, star parties, hands-on activities, lectures and talks. Please contact the individual institutions for further details. Times are in CEST and represent the start time of the event, the unveiling may be later.
